A tragic incident occurred on Naktala Road where a fire broke out in a closed flat located within a four-storey residence. Unfortunately, eight cats and a dog that were reportedly caged in the flat were burnt to death as a result.
The local residents, who made the claim that the animals were kept in cages, were deeply saddened by the event. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and a forensic team is scheduled to visit the location. The flat has been sealed off, and no complaint has been filed yet.
The fire, which occurred late on Saturday night, was eventually brought under control by 5 am, thanks to the timely intervention of the fire brigade from Tollygunge. Police sources have revealed that the owner of the flat, who lives in the South City of Jadavpur, used to visit the flat every day to feed the pets.
The local residents claimed that he burned incense sticks daily to mask the unpleasant odor emanating from the flat. The police suspect that the fire may have started from one of those incense sticks, although they are investigating the matter further to determine the exact cause.
