Fake call center busted in Howrah, 4 arrested, 14 lakh recovered

The police have busted a fake call center in Liluah, Howrah. The police team from Newtown police station raided the house of the call center owner in several rounds, from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning, and seized numerous documents. Four people, including the alleged mastermind of the gang, Gaurav Soni, have been arrested by the police of Newtown police station. Additionally, the police seized 55 computers and cash worth about Rs. 14 lakh. After interrogating the arrested individuals, the police discovered that Gaurav is the mastermind of the gang.

According to local sources, on Sunday, around 3 pm, a police team from Newtown police station visited the Daspara area of Liluah in Howrah and went to the house of Gaurav Soni, a local resident. The owner of the call center is believed to be Gaurav Soni, who operates call centers in Salt Lake and New Town areas, from where international frauds were allegedly carried out.

The residents of Daspara claim that the Soni family bought a small house in the area about eight years ago and began living there. Later on, he bought several places in the area and even built some houses. Furthermore, he used to travel in expensive cars. A neighbor named Akash Dhar stated, "I knew Gaurav Soni and his two sons as big businessmen, but today I understood that they earned like this."

Officials from Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate and Howrah City Police also visited the house. According to police sources, all the seized documents will be helpful in the investigation. It is worth noting that in the recent past, the police have busted many fake call centers in Kolkata and Salt Lake.

These call centers allegedly defrauded people at the international level by posing as technical support providers and stealing money from their accounts. The gang is believed to have spread across various parts of the state. The police say that they first call for technical help, and in the name of help, they also take away money from the victim's account.
