Indian Navy successfully tests MSRAM missiles from INS Vishakhapatnam

In a major boost to its combat capabilities, the Indian Navy has successfully test-fired the Medium Range Surface-to-Surface Missile (MRSAM). The missile was fired from INS Visakhapatnam, proving the ability to engage anti-ship missiles.

The destroyer INS Visakhapatnam can deploy 32 Barak anti-aircraft missiles with a range of 100 kilometers. It can also be deployed with the Barak 8 ER with a range of 150 kilometers. 16 BrahMos anti-ship missiles can also be installed on the vessel.

The MRSAM was jointly developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in collaboration with Israel's IAI. Manufactured at Bharat Dynamics Ltd, it reflects the Indian Navy's commitment to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. The Army's surface-to-air missile weapon system consists of a command post, a multi-function radar and a mobile launch system. It is based on the dangerous Israeli Barak-8 missile.

Once launched, the MRSAM can directly engage targets up to 16 km in the sky. The range of the missile is from half a kilometer to 100 km. This means it can destroy enemy vehicles, aircraft, drones or missiles within this range. A successful test launch demonstrated these capabilities. The new thing in the MRSAM missile is a radio frequency seeker, which means it will kill an enemy vehicle even if it only uses radio to do so. Its speed is 680 meters per second, i.e. 2,448 kilometers per hour. The speed makes it extremely deadly.

India is in talks with Israel to buy five regiments of MSRAM missiles from Israel. The vessel will consist of 40 launchers and 200 missiles. The cost of this deal is around 17000 rupees. India has talked about buying five regiments of MRSAM missiles from Israel. It will have 40 launchers and 200 missiles. The cost of this business is about 17 thousand million crowns. The deployment of these missiles will help India build an air defense shield. They are expected to be deployed by 2023.
