Two of the five men were arrested after they allegedly shot dead a 30-year-old resident of Kesarpur village in Shahbad outside a temple in UP's Rampur on Thursday night.
The victim has been identified as Rohitash Kumar. After receiving information, senior police officers arrived at the scene and after a 10-hour search operation, the police team managed to locate the minivan and after a brief encounter, the two killers were arrested. Both sustained gunshot wounds and are undergoing treatment.
Rohitash was named in the murder case two years ago. The victim was later found to have died in an accident. The accused, identified as Ramniwas Singh, Sreepal, Omveer Singh, Kallu Lal and Mahendra Kumar, allegedly killed Rohitash to avenge the murder.
Additional SP Sansaar Singh said, “The victim was murdered over an old dispute. The accused were found hiding in a forest area near the Ramganga river. They took the dead body away to hide the evidence of the murder. We have arrested Ranniwas and Omveer while the other three are absconding.”
