On Friday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the cancellation of the jobs of 842 Group C individuals, 785 of whom were found to have obtained their positions through a recommendation letter from the School Service Commission (SSC) and an appointment letter from the Board of Secondary Education.
The court instructed the SSC to withdraw the recommendation letters and the Board of Secondary Education to withdraw the appointment letters. The remaining 57 individuals did not receive recommendation letters from the SSC, and their names, roll numbers, and place of work were published on the SSC's website on Saturday.
It has been reported that one of the affected individuals is Vaishakhi, the daughter of BJP leader Dulal Chandra Bar who contested in the 2016 assembly elections as a Congress candidate but later joined the BJP. Bar denies any wrongdoing and claims that his daughter's appointment was legitimate. However, a deputy head of the Bagda Gram Panchayat and Trinamool leader alleges that Bar had a previous connection with Chandan Mandal, who was recently arrested in connection with the appointment corruption case.
Amit Saha, a Trinamool councilor and former town president from Diamond Harbour, and Madan Barman, the Youth Trinamool vice-president of Cooch Behar Matha Bhanga number two block, were also among the 842 affected individuals. Saha had been working as a teacher at Hatuganj Girls High School and had previously served as the district president of the Trinamool Student Council.
Barman denied any involvement in appointment corruption and claimed that he had passed the exam to obtain his position. He plans to file a review petition against the court's decision. The Trinamool president of the same block had also lost his job earlier and had obtained a job in Group D.
