As many as five people, including three children, were burnt to death after a fire broke out in a cottage in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat on Sunday, police said. This incident took place in Harmau Banjaradera village under Rura police station limit.
Satish Kumar, his wife Kajal and their three children were sleeping when the fire suddenly broke out. The cause of the fire is probably a short circuit. They were all burned alive in the fire.
Local residents tried to put out the fire, and fire brigades were also rushed to the village to put out the flames, but they could not be saved. Satish's mother, who was trying to put out the fire, also sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
After receiving the information, the District Magistrate, Inspector of Police (SP) and police officers reached the spot for investigation. A forensic team and dog squads were also deployed to investigate the cause of the fire.
“Satish was sleeping with his wife and children. The night bulb on the thatched roof caught fire due to a short circuit, in which they got burnt,” said villager Udaypal. “We got information that Satish and his family were burnt alive in the fire. We have called forensic team, fire brigade officials and dog unit team to investigate. Five people died in the incident,” Kanpur Dehat SP told.
DM Neha Jain visited the district hospital where Satish's mother was undergoing treatment. “A couple and their three children died in a fire in Haramau village. We are investigating the matter,” she said.
