The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested the girlfriend of one of the accused in the Umesh Pal murder case. The Special Task Force (SPF) arrested a woman from the Naini area of ​​Prayagraj district.

The woman was allegedly in contact with Mohammed Ghulam even at the time he fled, police said. "The woman provided many important clues during police questioning." "She knew about the murder that was about to happen and was giving details of it to Ghulam to alert him," they said.

Call Detail Records (CDR) helped the police to identify the woman and through him, the police reached the spot. Police have seized the mobile phones of people related to Umesh Pal's murder for further investigation. Police are looking for detailed call records for all mobile numbers.

Sources said the woman is married but was in touch with Ghulam due to a rift in the family. "There was a rift in the family because she contacted Ghulam," they said. The police also revealed that many people in the family of the arrested woman are members of a political party.

"The woman was not involved in politics when she was in contact with Ghulam," they said. The police gave details of the woman's call and said she spoke to Ghulam on the phone for hours and hours. "This conversation happened many times a day," they said. The Uttar Pradesh police announced a reward of five lakh rupees for the gunman Ghulam.

Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his police bodyguard Sandeep Nishad were shot dead outside his house in the Dhoomanganj area of ​​Prayagraj on February 24.

Atiq Ahmed is the prime accused in the Raju Pal murder case and is currently lodged in a Gujarat jail.
