Police on Tuesday registered a case against eight persons in connection with the firing incident that took place near Jamshedpur civil court gate under the Sitaramdera thana area on Monday.
In the case, which was registered on the basis of an FIR filed by Navin Singh, three persons namely Harpreet Singh, Kundi and Aman were accused. A case was registered with Sitaramder thana on the basis of the statement made by Navin Singh and also on the basis of CCTV footage derived from the crime scene.
According to the FIR, Navin Singh, who is a resident of Agrico, approached the civil court in connection with the case. When he along with his friend Anil Mukhi was returning through Gate No. 3 of the yard, he found Aman, Harpreet, Kundi and five others sitting on their bikes, apparently waiting for someone.
As soon as Harpreet saw Navin, the former shouted to his other companions and declared, “Navin Singh is coming. Shoot him.’’ Subsequently, Kundi and Aman fired shots aimed at him. To save his life, he somehow managed to re-enter the court premises. In the next moment, he was rescued by some policemen stationed at the court gate, but by then the assailants managed to flee from the spot.
According to the police, it was the same gang that opened fire at Chowk Chowk in Golmuri on Monday afternoon. After the shooters were identified, police began raiding their homes and elsewhere, but no arrests had been made as of this afternoon.
