'Illegal call centre' busted in Salt Lake, 7 arrested

'Illegal call centre' busted in Salt Lake, 7 arrested

In a major crackdown, officers and forces of Bidhannagar  Cyber Crime PS on Monday conducted a raid on an illegal call center operating under the banner of "Vinheet Technologies Pvt Ltd".  The call center was situated at Bengal Eco Intelligence Park in the Haldia Building, Tower 1, 13th floor, Module No. 18, Salt Lake, Sec- V, Kol-91.

The raid was conducted on the basis of credible information provided by a source. It was found that under the leadership of Raj Jaiswal and others, the illegal call center was operating to cheat innocent people of Belgium, Europe using the name of the branded company Microsoft. The accused were luring people into believing that their computer systems needed technical support and ultimately making the innocent people abroad bound to pay through different payment modes.

During the raid, the police seized 26 computer sets, 9 smartphones, cash worth Rs 53,000/- and other incriminating articles. It was discovered that the illegal call center had been operational since December 2020 and covered an area of over 1500 sq.ft.

The following 7 accused persons, including the director of the company Vineet Agarwal, were arrested during the raid. They were identified as Raj Jaiswal (25 yrs), Nishant Jaiswal (32 yrs), Raj Kumar Yadav (26 yrs), Mithlesh Mukhiya (23 yrs) and three others. The arrested persons were unable to produce any valid documents in support of their business.

The accused have been booked under sections 419, 420, 468, 469, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station has registered the case under case no. 39/23, dated 04/04/23. The arrested persons are scheduled to be produced before the court today with a prayer for police custody.
