Kolkata plans laser show to enhance Ganga aarti experience

Sensing the growing popularity of the Ganga aarti at the Bajekadamtola ghat, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to introduce a laser show to attract more visitors. The laser show will revolve around the theme of the origin of the Ganga and its beneficial role in the lives of millions of Indians who stay on the banks of the river as the river flows through several major states.

According to member council mayor Tarak Singh, “We have made a tentative plan to introduce a laser show at the Bajekadamtola ghat every evening, which will be an additional attraction for the visitors who throng the ghat to witness the Ganga aarti. We have initiated discussions with reputed firms to ensure that we offer visitors an unforgettable evening,” said Singh.

According to a KMC official who has witnessed a surge in the number of visitors during the Ganga aarti, the civic body has decided to improve the infrastructure. The civic body will hire a contractor to clean the embankment and create more space for artists and aarti visitors. The steps of the ghats will also be repaired and paved if necessary.

KMC engineers are also considering beautifying and redeveloping the 2.6 km stretch from Prinsep ghat to Millennium Park along the Hooghly. The road along the river will be repaired as parts of it are broken. "Although it will take some time to rebuild the entire stretch of the trail along the Hooghly, we may have to take a small stretch of the trail near Babughat so that visitors can view the aarti and laser show from a distance," said a KMC official. .

According to a KMC engineer, the construction of the Gangadevi temple is nearing completion and will become a must-see structure along the Hooghly. An official said, "We have decided to undertake a regular cleanliness drive to allow visitors to gather at the Bajekadamtola ghat and witness the aarti."
