A fact-finding committee is set to arrive in West Bengal on Friday to investigate the aftermath of the recent Ram Navami violence that occurred in Howrah and Hooghly's Risda. While the party name is not directly mentioned, sources have revealed that the committee is being run by leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is believed that the BJP is bringing the committee to the state to keep the issue of Ram Navami alive.
The committee, comprising retired Justice Narasimha Reddy, retired IPS Rajpal Singh, advocate Charuwali Khanna, advocate and former Joint Registrar Omprakash Vyas, journalist Sanjeev Naik, and advocate Bhawna Bajaj, are members of the voluntary organization 'Lawyers for Justice'. In the past, the organization has spoken to BJP workers affected by post-poll violence and job seekers who passed the Preliminary Recruitment Test (TET).
The same team had also visited Birbhum district in February to investigate the Bogtui massacre and allegations of temple attack in Raiganj.
During their visit, the committee members intend to meet with victims in Risda, talk to injured individuals at SSKM Hospital, and speak with locals in Howrah and Chandannagar. The committee also plans to hold discussions with police officers and the Home Secretary at Nabanna, followed by a press conference.
While BJP leaders have hinted that some state-level leaders may be responsible for the committee's welfare while in Kolkata, no official announcement has been made. It remains to be seen what the fact-finding committee will uncover during its investigation into the Ram Navami violence.
