Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit West Bengal ahead of the Panchayat elections in Asan, as confirmed by party sources on Monday.
The visit is scheduled for April 14, a day before the Bangla New Year, and will begin with a public meeting in Birbhum district. Shah is expected to offer prayers at Dakshineswar temple the following day. The Bengal BJP is currently preparing for the two-day visit of the Home Minister.
This will be Amit Shah's first visit to Bengal this year, after an earlier planned visit had to be cancelled. During his visit, Shah will address a public meeting in Siuri, Birbhum, where a prominent Trinamool leader, Anuvrat Mandal, is currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail after being arrested in a cattle smuggling case. His visit to this location is considered highly significant.
Shah will also hold an important organizational meeting with the core committee of the party in Kolkata, where prominent leaders of all the districts of the party have been asked to be present. This meeting is scheduled for the evening of April 14. The visit is crucial for the party in the upcoming Panchayat elections in West Bengal and ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The timing of Shah's visit is also significant in light of recent communal riots in the state following the attack on Ram Navami processions. The Central Government has sought a report from the State Government on this matter. Shah's comments on this issue will be of great interest to the public and the media.
