In a major development, Trinamool Congress legislator Jeevan Krishna Shaha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday morning. The MLA was taken to the Durgapur CBI camp for further investigation.
According to sources, documents recovered from Shaha's residence revealed allegations of embezzlement of around Rs 300 crore in recruitment corruption. It is believed that the legislator took between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 15 lakh from job candidates in exchange for employment opportunities.
The arrest of Jeevan Krishna Shaha is a significant blow to the Trinamool Congress party, which is currently in power in West Bengal. The MLA is a well-known figure in the region and has been associated with the party for many years.
The CBI is expected to take Shaha to Kolkata after a medical examination at the Durgapur CBI camp. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are likely to emerge in the coming days.
Saha is the third MLA who has been arrested by the CBI after Partha Chhatterjee and Manik Bhattacharaya. The CBI had arrived at his residence on April 14 noon and conducted raids.
