More than 100 houses were burnt to ashes after a massive fire broke out in Bihar's Bhagalpur town last night. The cause of the fire is said to be a gas cylinder explosion which took place in Sacchidanand Colony under Tilkamanjhi Police Station limits near Bhagalpur Airport. However, the administration has not yet made an official statement in this regard.
The fire department went to the scene with six fire trucks immediately after receiving information about the incident. The fire was brought under control after about five hours. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dhananjay Kumar, who took stock of the situation accompanied by police officials, said several dozen houses were damaged in the incident.
Congress MLA Ajit Sharma also reached the spot after the incident and assured that the administration would soon provide compensation to those who suffered damage. He also stated that their shelter and food will be provided. The mayor of the city, Dr. Vasundhara Lal and addressed the victims. She also promised all possible help from the administration.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, a massive fire broke out at the restaurant of Janata Dal (United) MLA Gopal Mandal's son Ashish Mandal in Bhagalpur. The unpleasant incident took place after a house caught fire behind a Housing Board colony in the Barari Police Station area. As a result, six houses and a restaurant of the JD(U) MLA's son were also completely burnt to ashes.
