In a shocking incident, Vikram Maliwal, the son of a former Director General of Police (DGP) in an Indian state, has become a victim of cyber fraud.
The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Station has apprehended the prime accused, Ajay Kumar Mahto, from Jharkhand. Maliwal had lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar cybercrime police after discovering that an online shopping loan app, Just Money By Now Pay Later, had fraudulently used his name to carry out transactions worth Rs 1,21,586.
Maliwal received a call on February 1 from a person claiming to be an employee of the company, requesting him to fill an online form to update his civil score. Upon filling the form, he received an email from the company, revealing the fraudulent transactions. The police investigation later revealed the involvement of a Jharkhand-based gang in the cyber fraud.
Maliwal is the son of Abhind Kumar Maliwal, who served as the DGP in the state. The incident highlights the growing threat of cybercrime in India and the need for greater awareness and caution while using digital platforms. The swift action by the Bidhannagar cybercrime police is a positive development in combating such crimes.
