BJP calls North Bengal bandh over Kaliaganj rape, bus vandalism reported

North Bengal witnesses disruption in daily life as BJP calls for a 12-hour bandh in protest against the recent rape incident in Kaliaganj.

The bandh has led to the vandalization of buses by BJP supporters, with reports of stones being pelted and glass being broken. In retaliation, Trinamool supporters have allegedly assaulted BJP workers.

The bandh has resulted in the disruption of public transportation and private vehicles across several districts in North Bengal. In Balurghat town, a sit-in protest was organized by the BJP in the area adjacent to the state bus stand to ensure the success of the bandh. Heavy police deployment has been implemented in crucial areas to prevent any untoward incidents. Police surveillance has been stepped up, and mobile vans are monitoring the city around the clock.

Despite the bandh, some shops in Balurghat city remain partially open. Meanwhile, in Malda district, BJP workers have blocked several roads, including the national highway, by burning tires and sitting in protest at various intersections.

The 12-hour bandh was called by the BJP to protest against the shooting death of a party worker in Kaliaganj.
