A devastating fire broke out in a multi-storied building located in Bangur on Sunday evening, causing panic in the entire area.
The building was situated next to a petrol pump, and locals feared that the fire might reach it. The incident was reported to the fire department, and three fire engines reached the spot to douse the flames. However, it proved insufficient, and ten more engines were rushed to the spot.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started from a lamp post in front of the building, and flames quickly spread from the banners in the post to the multi-storied building. Fire Minister Sujit Bose arrived at the scene and instructed the firemen to control the situation. The dense area posed a significant challenge for the firefighters, who struggled to contain the blaze.
The fire rapidly spread upwards from a shop located in the lower part of the building, and before anyone could comprehend the situation, it took a disastrous form. The locals alerted the fire department and tried to fight the fire themselves. The firefighters initially suspected a short-circuit to be the cause of the fire. The incident raised concerns as there were two petrol pumps nearby.
The building was evacuated, and it was discovered that there was also a godown beneath the structure, which exacerbated the fire's intensity. A large quantity of flammable materials stored in the godown caught fire, causing the situation to escalate further.
According to preliminary reports, two flats were damaged due to the fire. The area was covered in black smoke, causing widespread panic among the people.
