The Kerala Story: Adah Sharma's film gets 'A' certificate from CBFC with 10 cut proposal

Amidst all the controversies, 'The Kerala Story' gets 'A' certificate from CBFC on Tuesday.

The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, has been making headlines ever since the first trailer was released last month. The film also raised the political temperature in the country and sparked a debate about its plot. Now, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given the film an 'A' certificate along with 10 suggested cuts, which reportedly also include an interview scene with former Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan.

Controversy surrounding The Kerala Story

Ever since the trailer of the upcoming film was released, it has raised many eyebrows and has become the talk of the town for many. Many politicians have come forward with their views on the film, including current state chief Pinarayi Vijayan, who called it a "planned move" for "Sangh propaganda".

The film is said to revolve around the theme of 'Love Jihad', where several thousand Keralite girls converted to Islam and were later recruited into ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, also slammed the film, saying, “This can be *your* Kerala story. It's not *our* Kerala story.”

Deleted scenes

Many reports state that the CBFC has proposed 10 cuts in the film with one including an interview with the Kerala ex-CM as mentioned above. Another scene, which is said to be deleted, contains inappropriate references to Hindu gods.
The dialogue from the film which says "Indian communists are the biggest hypocrites" was also edited and the word Indian was probably removed from it.

About the story of Kerala

The film is directed by Sudipto Sen and stars the ensemble cast of Adah Sharma, Sonia Balani, Siddhi Idnani and Yogita Bihani. Bankrolled by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story is slated to hit theaters on May 5.
