West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the recent violence in the northeastern state of Manipur and offered help to the affected residents.
In a tweet on Saturday, she extended her hand to rescue the people of Manipur and issued helpline numbers for those who wish to return to Bengal from the troubled state. Mamata Banerjee assigned the responsibility of coordinating with the Manipur government for the rescue operation to Chief Secretary Harikrishna Dwivedi.
She instructed Dwivedi to ensure relief and rescue arrangements for the stranded people and monitor the entire process to help those in crisis and despair. Mamata Banerjee also appealed to everyone to maintain peace.
The helpline numbers issued by the Chief Minister's office are 033-22143526 and 033-22535185.
Political analysts believe that the BJP government is under pressure due to the ongoing violence in Manipur and is unable to handle the situation. They suggest that the BJP might seek help from the central government. In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee has taken a strategic step to help the trapped people of Manipur and convey the message that the Trinamool Congress does not see politics or a political party in a state of crisis.
