Last night, an 8-year-old child was reportedly sexually abused in Ward No. 26 of Shyampukur Vidhan Sabha, leading to outrage and protests by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The party members laid siege to Girish Park Police Station in North Kolkata to protest against the incident, and effigies of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Shyampukur Assembly MLA Shashi Panja were burned in front of the police station.
A six-member delegation, led by Tamoghan Ghosh, went to the police station and handed over a memorandum after talking to the senior officer.
The incident has sparked anger and calls for action against the perpetrators. The police have yet to make any arrests in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
