In a surprising turn of events, the father of a minor wrestler who had filed a case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has claimed that the allegations were false.
The father stated that his daughter and he had made the accusations out of anger due to her loss in a championship. While he clarified that he did not withdraw the earlier complaint, he recorded new statements admitting that some allegations were untrue. The family is reportedly going through a difficult time, and their main focus is to support the daughter's wrestling career.
The protesting wrestlers have temporarily halted their agitation until June 15 after receiving assurances from the government. Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, who met with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, stated that they were promised the filing of a charge sheet against Brij Bhushan and upcoming federation elections.
The wrestlers have also been informed that the FIRs against them would be withdrawn. However, they clarified that their protest is not completely over and has been suspended at the government's request.
The protesters faced accusations of breaching law and order during their unauthorized march to the new parliament building on May 28.
