Newtown Kolkata Development Authority has introduced Manhole Cleaning Robots to address the issue of clogged sewage systems during the rainy season.
The authority has purchased three robots from Zen Robotics at a cost of Rs 36 lakh each. Currently, these robots are being used in 19 cities across the country for drainage system maintenance.
The robots, equipped with sensors and cameras, can quickly identify and clean accumulated garbage in the manholes. They also detect toxic gases, ensuring safety for workers.
Newtown is the first location in West Bengal to employ these robots, marking a smart addition to the city's infrastructure.
