In a significant breakthrough, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police have arrested the mastermind behind an interstate fraud gang involved in an elaborate Airtel tower installation scam. The operator of the fake organization, identified as Manik Badshah, was apprehended following a series of investigations conducted by the Vidhannagar Cybercrime Police.
The operation unfolded in March 2023 when the Vidhannagar Cybercrime Police raided a fake call center located in Laketown. The raid resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals, including two women, who were allegedly part of the fraudulent gang. The modus operandi of the gang revolved around making fraudulent calls to unsuspecting individuals residing in various districts of West Bengal.
Using persuasive tactics, the fraudsters enticed their targets with the prospect of installing Airtel 4G towers on their rooftops or land. Victims who expressed interest in the proposal were then swindled out of large sums of money under false pretenses, with the gang claiming the funds were necessary for obtaining the required documents and permits.
However, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police, acting on credible information received through reliable sources, intensified their efforts to dismantle the fraudulent operation. In a well-coordinated operation carried out last night, Manik Badshah was arrested from the Shantipur area.
The arrest of the alleged mastermind marks a significant step forward in curbing the activities of the interstate fraud gang. The police are now focused on gathering evidence to build a strong case against the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls or offers related to Airtel tower installations. They have also advised individuals to verify the authenticity of such proposals by contacting the official channels provided by Airtel.
