In a surprising turn of events, the Trinamool Congress is facing internal turmoil as dissidents within the party defy instructions in the upcoming panchayat elections.
On the last day of nominations, a scramble ensued as individuals aligned with Rajiv Banerjee, known as followers, submitted nominations for independent posts, contrary to party directives.
A total of 35 candidates and proposers emerged in Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti. The nomination process caused temporary tension at the block office premises, prompting police intervention to diffuse the situation.
Police had to disperse an unauthorized gathering, while pro-Trinamool activists attempted to deter the disgruntled Trinamool party.
