In the aftermath of intense violence during the West Bengal Panchayat elections, the Bhangar area in South 24 Parganas district witnessed significant casualties and injuries.
To address concerns over safety, the central government has decided to provide Z+ category security to Bhangar MLA and Indian Secular Front (ISF) leader Naushad Siddiqui.
Expressing apprehension for his life, Naushad Siddiqui sought security measures, which led to the Center's decision to provide him with Z+ security within 48 hours. The security detail will consist of 22 personnel assigned to Naushad Siddiqui's protection.
After Naushad Siddiqui's letter reached Amit Shah, it was forwarded to Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai. Home Ministry officials have also discussed the matter with Nishith Pramanik, the Union Minister of State for Home and Cooch Behar MP from Bengal.
Following discussions with Nishith Pramanik, the Union Ministry approved Z+ security for Naushad Siddiqui. Consequently, the Center has made the decision to provide him with the upgraded security category.
Bhangar experienced severe violence during the Panchayat elections, with Naushad Siddiqui expressing concerns about his personal safety. Despite attempting to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna, he was refused a meeting.
In response, the Trinamool Congress has accused the ISF of having an alliance with the BJP, highlighting Naushad Siddiqui's WhatsApp chat with BJP leaders as evidence.
Kunal Ghosh, a spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress, criticized the state's opposition to the matter, and political circles are now keenly observing the party's response to the provision of central security to Naushad Siddiqui.
