The Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the panchayat election violence in Bengal.

During the West Bengal Panchayat elections, there was violence in various areas of the state. In the violence-hit areas, from Rani Nagar, Domkal, Bhangar to Islampur, Chopra, there were incidents of fighting and protests between the two parties over the filing of nominations.

During panchayat nominations in Bengal, there was more violence in minority-dominated areas. Many people died in the violence. According to the police, most of those killed in the violence belonged to the minority community.
