The Police on Saturday arrested 4 people from Haryana’s Ambala for attacking Bhim Army chief Chandra Sekhar Aazad. The young leader was attacked on June 28 in Deoband, Saharanpur.
A team of Haryana Police and Uttar Pradesh Police carried out a joint operation to nab the accused, said Haryana Special Task Force Deputy Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar.
Aazad was attacked while returning from a supporters home, where he had gone to attend a ‘tehravi’ ritual when bullets were fired at him.
The four people who were arrested have been identified as Vikas from Haryana, Prashant and Lovish from UP and another man also named Vikas, who is also a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Rankhandi village.
The Haryana Police has not recovered any weapon from their possession and they have been handed over to the UP Police. Aazad was injured in the firing and had to be taken to hospital immediately. Later on, talking to the media, the Bhim Army leader had appealed to his supporters to maintain peace.
On June 30, the police arrested a man for posting a threatening post on social media against Aazad.
Amethi’s Superintendent of Police Elamaran G as saying that taking cognisance of the death threats to Aazad on the Facebook page ‘Kshatriya of Amethi’, the police on Thursday registered a case under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Vimlesh Singh (30) was arrested on Thursday in connection with the post.
