Mother, daughter electrocuted at Mosabani in JHK's East Singhbhum

In a tragic incident, a 65-year-old woman and her 35-year-old daughter were electrocuted on Saturday morning at Mosabani in Ghatsila sub-division, about 45 km from here.

The electrocution occurred when an elderly woman identified as Baso Soren was stretching wet clothes on an iron rod in their living quarters.

When daughter Malti Soren saw her mother entangled in what was believed to be an electrically charged iron rod, she tried to save her but was too attached to her mother's body, resulting in the death of both on the spot.

After learning about the electrocution deaths of the twins, some people informed the police, who immediately informed the local office of Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL), which supplies power to the locality. Soon, a team of JBVNL officials reached the spot and disconnected the electrical connection of the house.

A police team, which also reached the spot, immediately fished out both the bodies and shifted them to Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem.

Mosabani thana OC, Ajit Kumar said that JBVNL was not responsible for the electrocution death.

“During preliminary investigation, we found that the iron rod in question had come in contact with a live electric wire pulled from the house. And there was no snag in the connecting line leading to the house from the pole belonging to JBVNL,” the report said.

Baso Soren lived in the house with her daughter while her son works in a private company in Hyderabad. The police have already informed the son about the tragedy.
