In a new development in the Lake Town murder case, police have confirmed that personal and business enmity were the driving factors behind the killing.
The suspect, Dhrit Sagar Haldar, allegedly believed that the victim, Snehashish Roy, had a role in the closure of their joint lottery business. Additionally, Sagar suspected an illicit relationship between Snehashish and his own wife, which further fueled his motive for murder.
According to Bidhan Nagar's Deputy Commissioner, Bishop Sarkar, a total of five individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder. During interrogation, Sagar admitted to targeting the firefighter due to personal animosity that had developed over the past six months.
Police investigation revealed crucial evidence, including CCTV footage collected prior to the incident. It was discovered that the murder was premeditated, with a mediator named Tanmoy Pal, also known as Rahul, facilitating the arrangement. The assailants were paid in betel nuts, valued at 70,000 rupees. Dhrit Akash Mallick played a role in introducing the hired killers, while an arms dealer named Sanju Mondal was among those arrested.
Two additional firearms, including a 7mm pistol, were recovered, along with two single-barrel guns.
The incident itself involved three rounds of firing, with Snehashish being shot twice. The police's investigation and subsequent arrests shed light on the underlying motives and provide a clearer picture of the sequence of events leading to the tragic murder in Lake Town.
