BJP MP Locket Chatterjee on Friday broke down on camera while addressing a press conference as she recounted an alleged incident of sexual violence by TMC workers against a BJP candidate during the recently concluded Panchayat polls. The alleged incident took place in Howrah district of West Bengal.
“West Bengal is also facing a situation like Manipur. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the Manipur viral video incident. He said there should be strong law and order situation in all the states. We want that people should talk about the daughters of Bengal who face the worst violence during panchayat elections,” she added.
Speaking on the Opposition alliance named INDIA, she said the new opposition will suffer defeat in 2024 elections. Chatterjee said this name was coined just to defame India and to create a divide between India and Bharat.
Earlier, West Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar claimed the death of 57 people during the panchayat elections. He said the deceased include the workers of Congress, CPM, Trinamool Congress. He also said thousand of homes were destroyed and shops burnt during the violence.
Following the violence, the BJP had formed a five-member team of women MPs who visited Amta in Howrah district on Wednesday. The delegation also met victims of panchayat post-poll violence. The team was appointed by BJP national president JP Nadda. The team had visited violence-hit Deganga in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday. The delegation members also met people whose houses were burnt down. Before this delegation, a fact-finding BJP team visited west Bengal and was led by former Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad.
