Virat Kohli equals Sir Don Bradman's record with 29th Test century against West Indies

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli achieved multiple milestones in his illustrious career during the second Test against West Indies, where he reached his 29th Test century at Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain.

In doing so, he equaled the legendary Sir Don Bradman's unique feat of 29 Test tons. Kohli's remarkable performance came during his record 500th international match, where he also became the fifth-highest run-scorer in international cricket, amassing an impressive 25,582 runs.

The century against West Indies helped him surpass cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar for the most hundreds in 500 international games, further cementing his legacy in the sport. The right-hander had made his Test debut against West Indies back in 2011, but his initial outing wasn't memorable, as he was dismissed for just 4 and 15 runs in the two innings at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The 34-year-old's journey to this historic century wasn't without its challenges, as he ended a five-year wait for an international century. The moment came in the 91st over of the Indian innings when he scored a boundary against West Indies' Jomel Warrican. Kohli's achievement brought him level with Bradman, who still holds the all-time record for the highest batting average in Tests at an incredible 99.94. Bradman managed to slam 29 centuries in just 52 Test matches during his illustrious career that spanned from 1930 to 1950.

Kohli's century against West Indies came off 206 balls, including 11 well-timed hits to the fence. It was a notable comeback after his impressive 76-run innings from 182 balls in the previous Test at Dominica.

During the match, Kohli also formed a crucial partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, contributing to a substantial 159-run stand for the fifth wicket. This partnership played a pivotal role in India posting a challenging total of 438 runs in the first innings.

At the end of the second day's play, West Indies was at 86/1, with their captain Kraigg Brathwaite batting on 37 and Kirk McKenzie on 14. Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed by Jadeja after scoring 33 runs.
