Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed over 70,000 appointment letters to newly recruited employees through video conferencing.
In his remarks to the newly appointed officials, the Prime Minister said, “During the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' when the country is working on the path of development, it is a great honor to get an opportunity to work as a government employee. The people of this country have taken a resolution to make India a developed country. He said that the next 25 years of India are crucial. “Every expert today says that in a few years India will be among the world's three largest economies. This means employment opportunities and per capita income of citizens will increase,” PM Modi added. PM Modi attacked the previous government and claimed that the financial industry suffered significant damage during their tenure.
“Today, India is one of those countries where the banking sector is considered to be the strongest, but 9 years ago it was not so... Our banking sector experienced massive destruction during the previous government. Today we are able to do digital transactions, but 9 years ago there was no telephone banking for 140 million people. People who were close to a particular family called the banks and gave them thousands of millions in loans that were never repaid. This 'telephone banking scam' was one of the biggest scams under the previous government,” PM Modi added.
There were 44 places across the country where the Rozgar Mela was held. Recruitment efforts are being made by Central Government, State Government and UT Departments who are supporting this initiative. The new recruits, who have been drawn from across the country, will join the government in a number of ministries/departments, including the Department of Revenue, Department of Financial Services, Department of Posts, Department of Education, Department of Higher Education, Department of Defence, Department of Health and Resource Conservation, Department of Health and Resource Conservation, nel & Training and Ministry of Home Affairs, among others.
The Rozgar Mela is a step in the direction of the Prime Minister's promise to give top priority to employment generation.
"The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst for further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development," the PMO said in a statement on Friday. The first phase of the "Rozgar Mela", launched by Prime Minister Modi on October 22 last year, signaled the start of an initiative to create 10 million government jobs.
