A 22-year-old lady, who was allegedly abducted by her family from her husband's house in Delhi, was rescued by the Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi Police, and Uttar Pradesh Police.

According to a DCW statement, a woman from Amroha, who claimed that she had married a man against her family's wishes in May 2023, complained to one of the commission's members, Firdaus Khan, in June.

She told DCW officials that she and her husband fled Amroha fearing for their lives and traveled to Delhi.

The woman was helped by the Delhi Police Complaints Commission. However, she did not take any legal action against her family members at the time, according to the statement.

According to the report, her husband called the commission on Friday to report that she was assaulted by members of her family who arrived at their home and forced her to leave alone.

Harsh Vihar police station received a report of the incident and a Delhi Police team was sent to Uttar Pradesh to visit the woman's house, according to the statement.

The woman's parents are accused of abandoning her at Gajraula police station in Uttar Pradesh at night, fearing for their safety from the police.

The woman was picked up by the police at the station and sent to Delhi for medical and legal examination.

According to a statement by DCW President Swati Maliwal, the team responded quickly after receiving a report that the woman had been abducted by her family members. With the assistance of Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police, the woman was rescued on Saturday and taken to Delhi.

Maliwal said the DCW would offer all possible help to the girl and further action should be taken against the family members so that they do not try to harm the youth again.
