The order was passed by Supreme Court Justice Vikas Behl on a plea filed by student Swiyyahdeep Kaur, who completed her 10th standard at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, a 10th-class school. She challenged the UT's decision to reserve 85% of government school seats for dropouts from city government schools.
The order was passed after the UT administration told the court that due to heavy rain and flood situation, the second counseling session has been delayed and will tentatively conclude by August 10. The entire procedure should be completed by the end of August 2023.
The UT administration added, “In case a student has applied for a particular stream and the seats in the said stream are full, they said the student will have the option to modify his application to apply for another stream, and in case he falls in the merit list of the said stream, the said student will be allotted a seat.
Given this, the court ordered that after the second counseling is completed, the UT administration will submit a new status report. The court also ordered that the four petitioners who challenged the admission criteria be granted provisional admission.
