In a heart-wrenching incident highlighting the dangers of extreme social media engagement, a young man lost his life while engrossed in creating video reels on his phone. The tragic event unfolded on Sunday afternoon in Howrah, where the victim, Sheikh Sair, was struck by a train while standing on the railway tracks to capture reels.
The incident occurred on the down line of the Kulgachia Mahisarekha bridge within the Howrah-Kharagpur division of the South Eastern Railway. According to police sources, Sheikh Sair, a resident of Rajapur police station area of Howrah, was accompanied by two friends who were also involved in the ill-fated endeavor.
As the trio stood on the railway track taking selfies and creating video content, an approaching train posed a grave threat. While Sheikh Sair's friends managed to get off the tracks in time, he was tragically struck by the train. The impact of the collision caused him to fall from the bridge, leaving his body suspended.
Local sources revealed that the friends had left their bike under the bridge and ventured up to the railway line for their social media activity. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers associated with pursuing such activities in hazardous locations.
Upon receiving the news of Sheikh Sair's untimely death, his family was plunged into turmoil. Bagnan Government Railway Police (GRP) was alerted to the situation and later recovered the victim's body. The body was subsequently sent to Uluberia Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College in Howrah for postmortem examination.
