College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, currently on a 12-day tour of Dubai and Spain, had a significant encounter with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe during her visit. Wickremesinghe approached Mamata at the Dubai airport lounge, leading to an impromptu conversation where she invited the Sri Lankan President for the State Business Summit in November. However, what raised eyebrows was the President's question for Mamata: "Will you lead the INDIA alliance?" Mamata responded with a smile, asserting that if we get people's support, we will definitely come to power tomorrow.
Mamata Banerjee shared the encounter, noting that President Wickremesinghe saw her at the airport in Dubai and initiated the discussion. She reciprocated his warm gesture by inviting him to the Bengal Global Business Summit 2023, scheduled to take place in Kolkata. The Sri Lankan President also extended an invitation for Mamata to visit his country, making the exchange a pleasant one. Mamata posted about this meeting on X.

Mamata Banerjee's overseas trip includes participation in a business summit aimed at attracting investment in West Bengal, scheduled for November 21-22 this year.
The trip comes in the context of the 'INDIA' alliance, a collective effort by opposition parties to counter the NDA led by Prime Minister Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The alliance initially comprised 26 parties, including Congress, TMC, NCP, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), RJD, AAP, JDU, CPI, CPM, JMM, with two more later joining its ranks. However, a decision on the PM candidate for the alliance is yet to be finalized, and the BJP has been actively targeting the 'INDIA' alliance on this matter.
