South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
In a recent incident near Dum Dum Junction railway station, a local train coach derailed, causing a disruption in railway services. The derailment occurred at approximately 9.50 am, and railway authorities managed to restore services by 11.30 am. Down Kalyani-Majerhat local train derailed while entering Dumdum station.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, but the incident caused panic among passengers. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation, said Eastern Railway spokesperson Kaushik Mitra. Railways believes that a major accident has been averted due to the reduced speed of the local train.
This is the second such incident to take place at Dumdum station in the last five days. In a previous occurrence, a Sealdah-bound local train entered the central line without stopping at Dumdum station, leading to passenger inconvenience. Railway authorities attributed the incident to technical faults at the time.
