Special festive tram will operate in Kolkata during Durga Puja

Kolkata's iconic trams, a symbol of the city's rich history and enduring charm since their inception in 1873, are set to embrace a new and festive role. In celebration of the city's heritage and the UNESCO heritage tag of Durga Puja, a special puja tram will grace the streets of Kolkata. The timing couldn't be more fitting, coinciding with the city's most important month of festivities.

The Puja Special Tram, dedicated to commemorating the UNESCO heritage tag and celebrating 150 years of the Kolkata Tramway, is a unique addition to the vibrant spirit of Durga Puja. It is a testament to Kolkata's commitment to celebrating the occasion in an exceptional and unforgettable manner. This special tram, running from Tollygunge to Ballygunge, traverses through historical areas renowned for their grand puja pandals, making it an ideal choice for this festive journey.

The exterior of the first tram bogie is adorned with hand-painted artwork paying homage to Kumartuli, where skilled artisans craft the exquisite Durga idols. It captures the essence of Sindoor Khela and Dhunuchi dance, as well as the remarkable stories featured in the 'People of Puja' series. Inside, passengers are treated to a captivating transformation featuring cane installations, Alpona art, and museum-style puja decorations. The second bogie showcases the rich heritage and culture of West Bengal, incorporating augmented reality elements, and adorning its exterior with dramatic representations of famous puja symbols.
