In a distressing turn of events, a devastating fire engulfed several houses with wooden structures late at night near Nimtala Ghat. The incident began around 12:30 am when vigilant residents spotted a fire originating on the second floor of a house located on Kathgola Road. The flames swiftly consumed neighbouring houses and their wooden frameworks, prompting an immediate response from the fire department. Ten fire engines managed to bring the fire under control in approximately two hours.
Fortunately, all residents had evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters are now conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
This incident adds to a growing list of fire-related emergencies in Kolkata that have raised pressing concerns about fire safety regulations. The fire brigade was alerted when smoke emanated from the warehouse around 2 am, and despite continuous efforts, the blaze persisted throughout the night. Similar to the Nimtala Ghat incident, the situation in Behala illustrated the potential hazards in densely populated areas, particularly when flammable materials are stored.
