In a significant move ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the West Bengal government has announced its decision to fill approximately 12,000 vacant constable positions within the state police force. While the decision was taken in a recent cabinet meeting at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, specific details regarding the appointments are yet to be disclosed.
An official from the state secretariat confirmed the Cabinet's approval to fill these vacancies, revealing that 8,400 positions are designated for male police constables, while 3,600 positions are allocated for female police constables. The recruitment process will be conducted through the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.
Notably, under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration, several appointment-related cases, such as teacher appointments, municipality appointments, fire department appointments, and health worker appointments, have been pending in West Bengal courts. These pending appointments have caused significant concerns and uncertainties for numerous candidates due to allegations of corruption in the appointment process.
