South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently conducted raids in No. 19 Banstalla area of Barabazar, Kolkata. These operations targeted the office of Bitthal Acharya, who serves as a clearing agent for the customs department. The raids were part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal activities involving smuggling and tax evasion.
Bitthal Acharya's office has come under the ED's scrutiny due to suspicions of his involvement in facilitating the illegal movement of gold. It is alleged that Acharya played a key role in confirming the delivery of smuggled gold, reportedly accepting a substantial commission, which amounted to approximately 30% of the illegal consignments.
