Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra appeared before the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, signaling her determined stance in response to allegations of 'cash for query.' Mahua, bearing not one but three bags, sought the opportunity to cross-examine her accusers, Darshan Hiranandani and Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, as she defended herself against the accusations.
The Ethics Panel is investigating claims that she accepted money in exchange for posing questions in the Lok Sabha, with BJP MP Nishikant Dubey having lodged a complaint against her, alleging she received bribes to target the Adani Group.
Prior to her appearance, Mahua shared a copy of a letter sent on October 31, expressing her desire to cross-examine her accusers, which was also made public on Wednesday. The Ethics Committee's investigation is centered around the allegations of wrongdoing, with Mahua asserting that "Complainant Dehadrai has not provided any documentary evidence in support of his allegations in his complaint, nor could he provide any evidence in his oral hearing." In her appearance, she maintained that the Ethics Committee lacks the authority to probe allegations of alleged criminal conduct.
