College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
During police operations in Murshidabad district, huge quantity of heroin and firearms have been recovered from two different places. Three people have been arrested in these cases. The operations took place late Friday night in the vicinity of Akura Bridge under Farakka police station.
On receiving information from secret sources, the police stopped them near Akura Bridge. On searching their possessions, 307 grams of heroin was recovered. The estimated market value of the recovered heroin is around Rs 5 lakh. Police has arrested both the accused. The accused are residents of Char Sujapur village of Vaishnavnagar police station in Malda district and have been identified as Subhash Mandal (40) and Sujit Mandal (35).
During preliminary interrogation, the police found out that both the men had been involved in drug trafficking gangs in Malda, Murshidabad, Jharkhand and Bihar for a long time. Both the arrested persons will be produced in the NDPS court on Saturday after applying for ten days police custody.
On the other hand, on Friday night, Samsherganj police arrested a criminal with a firearm and a round bullet. The name of the arrested person is Rafiqul Shaikh (35). He is a resident of New Market area of Dhulian Municipality. Police arrested him from the area adjacent to Old Dakbungla intersection. The police is investigating the matter.
