The Kolkata Film Festival took an unexpected political turn as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's dance with Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, drew a controversial remark from Union Minister Giriraj Singh. The minister's comment, referring to Mamata's dance as a "thumka," has ignited a political firestorm, prompting Trinamool Congress women MPs to stage a protest in Parliament against the derogatory comments.
Trinamool Congress strongly criticizing Giriraj Singh's remarks, denouncing them as an insult to the state and the only women CM of India staged a protest on Thursday late noon, at Hazra More, Kolkata. The women MPs of TMC, including Shatabdi Roy, Mahua Moitra, Mausam Benazir Noor, Mala Roy, Aparupa Poddar, and Pratima Mandal, participated in the protest outside the Parliament demanding the removal of Giriraj Singh from the cabinet.
In response to the criticism, Union Minister Giriraj Singh defended his statement, claiming that he highlighted Mamata Banerjee's 'celebration' in a state plagued by corruption and where the rights of the poor are allegedly being compromised.
