BJP defeats AAP in Delhi, ends 27-year reign: Key reasons behind AAP's defeat
In a press conference at the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Assembly and a senior BJP MLA, accused Abhishek Banerjee, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, of favoritism in the distribution of old age pensions.
Adhikari claimed that out of the total 2,20,000 old age pension beneficiaries in the state, a significant portion, 70,000, is allocated to Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas, where Abhishek Banerjee is the Member of Parliament. Adhikari asserted that the state government is prioritizing the constituency to secure a victory for Mamata Banerjee's nephew.
Abhishek Banerjee, the Diamond Harbour MP, had initiated steps to provide old age allowances to 70,000 underprivileged individuals in his constituency by January. Adhikari raised questions about the allocation, stating that the nephew's electoral success is the motive behind this disproportionate distribution.
He criticized the state government's handling of the old age pension, highlighting fraudulent practices during the Panchayat elections and alleging the involvement of fake Block Development Officers (BDOs) in the approval process.
