No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The political landscape in Siliguri, Darjeeling district, has reached a boiling point as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and opposition leader Shubhendu Adhikari are set to hold separate meetings on the same day, Tuesday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's gathering is scheduled at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri, while Shubhendu Adhikari plans to address the public at NJP's Kanchenjunga Hall. The simultaneous events have posed a significant challenge for the local police administration, leading to increased tensions in the town.
On Monday, six Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, including Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh, staged a protest against Mamata Banerjee's meeting at Kanchenjunga Stadium. The demonstration resulted in the police detaining the protesting MLAs, adding further pressure on the administration.
Sources indicate that BJP members may resort to showing black flags during the Chief Minister's visit on Tuesday, raising concerns about potential conflicts between the BJP and Trinamool Congress. To mitigate potential security risks, the police have implemented necessary measures for Mamata Banerjee's visit.
