Netflix has unveiled its list of the most-viewed titles on the platform from January to June 2023, revealing that the Indian web series Rana Naidu secured the 336th spot in the top 400. Starring Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati, the series gained attention despite facing criticism for its bold content. Released in multiple languages on March 10, Rana Naidu recorded a total of 4,63,00,000 viewing hours.
While The Night Agent and Ginny and Georgia claimed the top spots with 81,21,00,000 and 66,51,00,000 viewed hours, respectively, the top 10 also featured titles like The Glory, Wednesday, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, You, Outer Banks, and Manifest. In total, nine Indian titles made it to the top 1000 list, including Mission Manju, Indian Matchmaking, Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, and the Hindi version of RRR.
Other notable mentions in the list beyond the top 1000 included Scoop, Gumraah, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, Trial by Fire: Limited Series, Delhi Crime season 1, and Sacred Games season 1. Despite facing controversy over its content, Rana Naidu's inclusion in the top 400 highlights its significant viewership.
Venkatesh, one of the lead actors, has indicated that the upcoming season 2 will be toned down in response to objections raised about explicit content. The focus, he mentioned, will shift towards the storyline and comedic elements rather than relying on expletives. The diverse array of Indian titles in Netflix's rankings underscores the platform's global popularity and the wide reach of Indian content.
