Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
Renuka Ram, an expelled accountant from the treasury office, has been arrested by Qaisar Bagh police for her involvement in embezzling over ₹1.37 crores of government funds, falsely represented as pension disbursements.
The arrest took place near the treasury office located in Jawahar Bhawan, and Renuka Ram has been sent to court for police remand. This follows the earlier filing of a case against Renuka and four accomplices by treasury officer Rahul Singh on November 27.
Renuka Ram and her associates, including Vishal, Gulabhi, Pratindra Kashyap, and Ramrati, are accused of fraudulent activities between 2014 and 2019, falsely claiming pension disbursements for individuals ineligible for such benefits. The accused faces charges under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 7/13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Investigations revealed the misuse of identity documents and fabrication of digital documents to facilitate embezzlement. Funds, totaling over ₹122 lakh, were transferred to the bank accounts of the accused, and additional discrepancies emerged, such as the fraudulent receipt of two pensions by Vishal.
