In a distressing incident at Belgachia station of the Kolkata Metro at 7 am on Wednesday, a 73-year-old man attempted suicide by trying to jump in front of an oncoming train on the down line. Quick and decisive action by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel averted the tragedy as they promptly pulled the elderly man to safety by grabbing his hand. Following the rescue, the man was immediately taken to the station manager's office for further assistance.
According to Metro officials, the elderly man, who cited family unrest as the reason behind his suicide attempt, was later contacted by his family. Around 9 o'clock, the metro officials handed over the 73-year-old man to the police, marking a collaborative effort to address the emotional distress he was facing.
