The recently completed Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya may undergo a name change to become the "Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham".The renaming is expected to be announced by PM Modi during the inauguration ceremony scheduled for December 30.
The newly constructed international airport in Ayodhya could be renamed after poet Valmiki who is celebrated as the author of epic Ramayana, during Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the temple town.
The airport, constructed at a cost exceeding 1,450 crore in its first phase, boasts state-of-the-art facilities with a terminal building covering 6500 sqm, capable of serving up to 10 lakh passengers annually. In addition to the proposed name change, the airport's interiors will showcase local culture through murals depicting the life of Lord Ram, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The terminal building of Ayodhya airport is also equipped with various sustainability features like an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, a water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, solar power plant and many other such features have been provided.
